6.4 Fillthepumpwithprocessuidorwaterensuringairispurged
from pump to check for static leaks. Repair any leaks before
start-up.
6.5 Startthepumpandcloselymonitorsealleakageforapproxi-
matelytwohours.Sealleakagecanbeinitiatedbydimensional
changes in the pump after start-up that may reduce seal com-
pression. Example:
Axialshaftmovementduetobearingclearancesandthermal
growth.Ifvisibleleakageisobservedshortlyafterstart-up,
adjustthesealoneatandwait10to15minutesforthefull
effect of the change. If necessary, repeat the procedure no more
than3times(6attotalor1completeturnofthenut).Iftheleak
hasnotbeenreduced,itisastaticleakorthesealfaceshave
beendamaged.Furtheradjustmentmaydamagetheseal.
